Passport pages for visas: 28 or 52?

Short answer
How many pages does a U.S. passport have, and can I add more?
You can pick a regular passport book or a larger 52-page book on Form DS-11 or DS-82, and the larger book costs nothing extra. The State Department no longer adds visa pages to existing passports, so when you run out you need a new passport.

Key takeaways
- Tick the large-book box on your form if you travel often.
- There's no extra fee for the larger book.
- Many countries require one or two blank pages for stamps.
- Running out of pages means applying for a new passport.
Full answer
Check each destination's blank-page rule before you travel. Some entries are refused when there is no blank visa page.
