Australia Electronic Travel Authority (ETA, subclass 601)

Short answer: U.S. passport holders visiting Australia for tourism or business visitor activities. Before travel. Valid for 12 months or until your passport expires (whichever is shorter), multiple entries, with stays of up to 3 months each. Cost: No visa charge, but the official Australian ETA app has an AUD 20 service charge.

How to file

1. Download the official Australian ETA app.
2. Scan your passport and take a live photo.
3. Pay the AUD 20 service charge.
4. Wait for the grant notice before you fly.

Before you go

• The form does not replace your passport. Check that your passport is valid long enough with our validity rules by country.
• Passport expiring soon? Renew first.
