Photo Identification Requirements
When applying for a passport in person, you must provide proper photo identification.
Who Needs to Provide Photo ID?
- Adults over age 18
- Parents or guardians applying with their child
ID Requirements
Your identification document must meet all of these requirements:
- Must be a physical document
- Must include your photo
- Must be issued by the government
Primary Photo ID Options
Important: Digital IDs, mobile driver's licenses, or mobile IDs are not accepted for passport applications.
- Valid or expired, undamaged U.S. passport book or card
- Valid in-state driver's license or enhanced driver's license
- Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship
- Government employee ID (city, county, state, or federal)
- U.S. military or military dependent ID
- Current valid foreign passport
- Matricula Consular (Mexican Consular ID)
- U.S. Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)
- Trusted Traveler IDs (Global Entry, FAST, SENTRI, NEXUS)
- Enhanced Tribal Cards and Native American tribal photo IDs
Secondary ID Requirements
If you cannot present a primary photo ID, you must present at least two of the following secondary IDs:
- Out-of-state driver's license
- Temporary driver's permit
- Social Security card
- Voter registration card
- Employee work ID
- Student ID
- School yearbook with photo
- Health/Medicare card
Photocopy Requirements
- Submit photocopies of front and back
- Use white 8.5" x 11" paper
- Black and white copies only
- Do not reduce image size
